The Idea

Some citizens of Obergiesing and Untergiesing-Harlaching came together and shared their thoughts about current media headlines. In many regions of the world, nationalism, religious fatalism, envy, hatred of strangers and racism disturb people's lives and keep them from living together in peace. We, the citizens of Obergiesing and Untergiesing-Harlaching, know that there is no encouragement given to people in such areas to think about a life in peace and mutual respect. We are aware that we will not be able to find solutions to the problems of other nations or neighbouring countries. What we can do, however, is try to support integration and establish personal contact; to organize meetings, thereby giving people the opportunity to share their problems. With many people, change is impossible, but personal effort can sometimes help them to overcome egotism, prejudices and nationalism and enable them to open a dialogue with others willing to ignore boundaries of race and culture.

About Us

These thoughts have led us to write down our idea of intercultural dialogue and international understanding in a statute. Fourteen members founded the association, “Freunde Internationaler Partnerschaften e. V.”, on January 18, 2002.  We are registered in the index of associations at the district court in Munich, under number 17681.  The revenue office for associations in Munich has confirmed us as a non-profit organization according to §10 b, paragraph 1, of German income-tax law. (Nr.843/24942)

The goal of our association is the support of individual relations, as well as the creation of and co-operation with foreign organizations. Another goal is to take care of guests that are interested in another country's culture, history, customs and social situation. The association strives to be a help to as many foreign guests as possible, and to find foreign partners for domestic organizations. We want to create possibilities for youth to develop friendships in foreign countries. Already we have several international relationships. The association is independent of any political party and does not favor any particular ideology.

What You Can Do For Us

Do you have any relations or acquaintances abroad you would love to deepen? Please add your experience in international understanding to our own. You can help the association by becoming a member. Please support us with your help and your donations. We know that many of our goals cannot be achieved simply by gaining new members, but that we need gracious donations. What We Can Do For You

You can participate in the creation and improvement of international relations, meetings and the integra- gration of people. Donors receive a tax-reducing receipt. Every member also receives a receipt for the annual fee that is applicable to your income tax return according to §10b of German income tax law.
